Social Engagement

2013-present Director, Arizona Artists Guild Veterans Art Program

Monthly art classes, free to Veterans, structured to provide confidence building and reduction of anxiety and pain, while fostering creativity and expressive voices.

2017-present co-director, Arizona Artists Guild Suicide Survivors Art Program

Monthly art classes, free to those who have lost family members to suicide, or who have attempted suicide themselves, in order to foster greater confidence and well-being.

1991-present Empty Bowls fundraiser events, yearly participation (director, produced an average of 500 bowls personally each year, supported Empty Bowls events across the Phoenix metro area. Brought the concept into the classroom and guided students in the production of Empty Bowls events on the community college campus.

Two year apprenticeship in 100 year old company. Made early American folk style crockery on the potter’s wheel.

Balkan Artists Series
Filmed in October 2017 as part of a sabbatical project, this series consists of interviews with artists in Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro as they describe their artistic process, how they became artists, the meanings in their artworks, their perspective on the value of art in their culture, and suggestions for students/beginners about how to become an artist themselves.
